DiPego) Thank you for taking the time for this interview. Your books are like a mixture of fantasy and adventure with a romance. How did you think of writing a „Indiana Jones“-like novel? I’d always loved watching adventure films, but felt that the female characters were so poorly depicted.  They usually screamed, fainted, and were generally useless and required saving. I also wanted to read romance novels that had that strong adventure elements in them, but never really found any books that satisfied that need. So I decided to address both concerns by writing adventure-filled romance novels, where the heroines were as strong and capable as the heroes. I’ve been writing for awhile (although this was my first book to sell) and a ton of my author friends said I should use the stories I told them about the hospital as the basis for a book. I was reluctant to do so until one night a doctor made me mad. They weren’t there, and I was explaining what was happening to my patient over the phone, and it was clear they didn’t believe me. My first thought was — after being pissed off — was, „No one believes nightshift,“ and my second thought was, „That’s it. You’re going in a book!“ After that, Nightshifted (and its sequels!) were born. How do you do your research? Going into a hospital on the nightshift? You first published your book on your own. Why did you choose this particular course of action? I self-published because none of the traditional publishers or agents I submitted my book to were interested. I gave it about two years and then I decided that it was okay with me to just write as a hobby. I was very surprised when an agent and a Hollywood producer contacted me about my self-published books because I’d kind of given up on the idea that anyone in the publishing world would want them. An enchanted prince – that comes straight from a fairy tale. Did you love those stories as a child? Was it easy for you to write something like that? Fairy tales have been important to me since I was a child. My parents gave me a copy of Aesop’s Fairy Tales and I read one every night for years. I knew that I wanted a handsome prince in my series and then I ended up with two. Why did you choose YA-books and the genre? Marjorie M. Liu for example has chosen to write a paranormal romance for adults with her story about an enchanted tiger in „Tiger Eye“. […]
